Jugs Lite-Flite Pitching Machine

The Jugs Lite-Flite Pitching Machine is a pitching machine that delivers big league style pitches at a minor league price, with left- and right-handed curves, sliders and fastballs for baseball and softball. A Lite-Flite ball leaving it at a simulated 85 mph from 25 feet has the timing of a live fastball and the mass of a training ball. That light ball lets the machine work in a school gym, a garage or a low-ceilinged cage. Hitters learn to hit the breaking pitch without the fear of being hit.

The ball list is short and specific: 11-inch or 12-inch Lite-Flite softballs, Lite-Flite baseballs, JUGS Multi-Use Practice Baseballs and Softballs, and JUGS BULLDOG polyballs. The Switch-and-Play knobs move the machine between baseball and softball in seconds. It weighs 35 pounds on a swivel-design base with 360-degree movement for fly balls, pop-ups and ground balls. The 1/8 horsepower motor draws 1.3 amps from a standard 110V AC outlet.

How it works

Light balls only
Ball compatibility decides how the Lite-Flite Machine is used. Every ball it feeds is a light training ball, and real baseballs and softballs stay out of this machine. The light ball makes the machine usable in a gym with a wall behind the hitter, and it lets a coach throw breaking balls to young hitters. Sample Lite-Flite and BULLDOG balls in both sizes come in the box, so the first session can start before a bucket arrives.

The Switch-and-Play knobs let you go from baseball to softball in a matter of seconds, with a chute for each sport in the box. One machine can serve a baseball group and a softball group on the same gym floor.

Curves and sliders in both directions
The pitch list is left- and right-handed curves, sliders and fastballs, for baseball and for softball. A hitter who has only faced fastballs off a wheel sees a ball leave on one line and arrive on another for the first time, against a ball that weighs a fraction of what a leather ball weighs. To change pitches, loosen the pitch selection knob and line its arrow up with the pitch you want.

The Always-See-The-Ball delivery system gives the hitter better tracking and timing. The hitter picks the ball up out of the machine and follows it in, a part of hitting that a machine can otherwise take away from a young player.

The Lite-Flite Machine simulates speeds up to 85 mph at 25 feet. The figure measures reaction time. A light ball released 25 feet from the plate closes the same window a much faster ball closes from a full pitching distance, so a machine with a 1/8-horsepower motor puts big league timing inside a batting cage. The Small-Ball Machine simulates 55-75 mph at 20 feet, and the PS50 throws 15-50 mph.
