What makes Theragun different than other massage devices?

Dr. Jason Wersland created the Theragun, the first-ever percussive massage device of its kind, over a decade ago to relieve his own debilitating pain. While many massage devices have attempted to replicate its shape and function since then, the personalized deep tissue massage of a Theragun is calibrated by medical experts and backed by science for longer-lasting relief.

Theragun is the only device proven to improve your recovery, performance, sleep, mobility and stress. While most massage guns only have 10mm of amplitude, Theragun has 16 mm to go 60% deeper into your muscles for more effective recovery. Through our unique combination of speed, depth and power, we are the only device consistently validated by science publications and research studies.

Where traditional handle designs make it hard to reach areas like the lower back without strain, Theragun's patented triangle handle enables you to comfortably reach 80% of your body. Every Theragun attachment is meticulously designed by founder Dr. Jason Wersland to ensure the right shape and density for specific areas of the body. Every shape is intentional, unlike the variety of shapes and sizes you'll find with other attachment designs. While most attachments are made of hard plastic, Theragun attachments are designed with closed-cell foam that is safer for the body.

Quality is one of the most important considerations when researching the right massage device, and most devices provide surface-level relief without the durability that comes from high quality engineering and materials. Built with high quality components and a proprietary high performance brushless motor, Theragun won't stall or break under pressure. We stand by that quality with an industry-leading warranty on every device.

As the pioneers of percussive therapy, we want to empower you with all that we know to put you in control of your recovery. Our Therabody app provides guided, personalized routines that allow you to get the most out of your device. Find routines for pain, performance, better sleep, stress, and more. Get recommendations on what speed, grip, attachment, and pressure level is right for you — the Therabody app is like a pro in your pocket, providing better education than any other massage device app.

It provides better education than any other massage device app.

What is QuietForce Technology and why does it matter?

The proprietary brushless motor in the latest and previous (fourth) generation of Theragun devices use QuietForce Technology™ to deliver unrivaled Theragun power all while being quieter than ever. No brushless motor on the market was capable of quietly providing the Theragun standard of power, so we innovated our own.

The latest Theragun PRO uses a fully redesigned EQ-150 motor to deliver unmatched professional-grade power while being 20% quieter than the previous generation. Apply up to 60 lbs of pressure — Theragun will maintain speed and treatment quality without stalling.

Which devices have a responsive force meter and what does it do?

The latest Theragun PRO, and previous generation PRO and Elite models have a viewable force meter on the OLED screen located at the top of the device. This force meter monitors the applied pressure on the body resulting from pressure exerted by the user.

Please note that while Theragun Prime and all generations of Theragun mini do not feature an OLED screen for responsive force meter display on the device itself, it is viewable in the Therabody app during treatment.

What is pneumatic compression and how does RecoveryAir work?

Pneumatic compression is a form of pressure massage in which a garment completely covering the limb (legs or arms) inflates and deflates in a cyclical pattern over a period of time. The process flushes fluids containing metabolic waste and ushers in fresh, nutrient-rich blood to the limbs, improving circulation and blood flow. This increased circulation will reduce muscle pain and soreness, decrease swelling, and offer greater pain relief and recovery.

How is RecoveryAir better than other pneumatic compression systems?

RecoveryAir devices are faster, safer, and more effective than other pneumatic compression systems. When it comes to pneumatic compression, not all systems are created equal. Our commitment to applying the latest science and research to the product development process is a key component in providing the world with the most effective, efficient, and easy-to-use products. Here are some key, proprietary differences in our technology compared with other systems:

True negative gradient of pressure: TruGrade Technology™ allows the garment to create precise pressure while inflating and deflating to sequentially travel up your legs from the bottom of your feet toward your heart through four overlapping chambers to temporarily increase circulation to the treated area. The spiraling overlap of chambers safely maximizes circulation compared with other designs that interrupt air flow and create potentially harmful peaks and valleys of pressure.

Faster recovery, 2-3x times the speed of competitors: FastFlush Technology™ aids in recovery by completing one full cycle in just 60 seconds.¹ This is two-to-three times faster than competitors. This refers to the flush cycle – or the way the boots inflate or deflate – which occurs in just 60 seconds. This makes RecoveryAir two-to-three times faster than other pneumatic compression boots. The more flushes, the faster recovery.

Safer with precise pressure control: Our system allows you to set your session to precise units of pressure and monitors pressure according to the size of the limb being treated to prevent dangerous overconstriction. Many systems deliver a wide range of pressures within an arbitrary setting, often inflating past a safe human blood pressure.

More effective with full inflation and deflation: RecoveryAir’s precise pressure control and true negative gradient allow for a fuller, more complete cycle of compression and release. This flushes out metabolic waste more effectively, and allows fresh, oxygenated blood to return to the limb faster.

Superior, hygienic design: The RecoveryAir garments have non-porous medical grade material that helps prevent bacteria buildup and provides a resistant surface. The internal overlapping chambers provide one smooth surface to clean, which means no wiping under chamber flaps where bacteria can build up. This also means no smells. Unexposed to the user, this design provides a seamless, easy-to-clean surface on the interior of the boot.

Data based on comparison of Therabody’s FastFlush cycle to NormaTec’s Flush Mode.

How is this generation of RecoveryAir different from previous generations of RecoveryAir boots?

While the core technology of RecoveryAir is still faster, safer, and more effective, our latest generation truly ushers in the future of pneumatic compression. Our systems still use a negative gradient of pressure to sequentially travel up the limbs from the foot to heart to increase circulation, help reduce muscle soreness, and aid recovery. Now, you’ll notice a modern, updated design aesthetic of the pumps, controls, and garments. The all-new JetBoots is also completely revolutionary in pneumatic compression — not only is the pump and one-touch control panel fully integrated into the boot itself, JetBoots is fully wireless. No cords. No external pumps. Nothing to plug in. That is truly anytime, anywhere recovery.

How do I know which RecoveryAir model is right for me?

Fully customizable, fully wireless, or simplified — RecoveryAir offers a system for everybody.

How do I use RecoveryAir?

You can use your RecoveryAir system anytime, as it features dedicated modes for warm-up and recovery as well as extensive customization options (PRO model only) to tailor your recovery to your needs. It's also a great option for decompressing after a long day before bed. Sit back, relax, and recover hands-free.

Theoretically, you can use RecoveryAir for as long as you like, as long as you do not experience pain or discomfort. If you feel discomfort when using RecoveryAir devices, decrease the intensity of the compression (treatment pressure), decrease the hold time (how long the boots stay inflated at the end of each cycle) or increase the release time (duration between treatment cycles). If you feel pain, immediately stop using the device.

What app is my RecoveryAir system compatible with?

The latest (second) generation of RecoveryAir systems connects to the Therabody App via Bluetooth, allowing you to customize and control your treatment right from your smart phone.

Which RecoveryAir garments are compatible with the latest (second) generation of RecoveryAir systems?

The latest RecoveryAir PRO system is compatible with all available RecoveryAir garments including the Compression Half-Jacket, PRO Compression Pants, and Compression Sleeve.

RecoveryAir JetBoots are designed to be on-the-go recovery for the legs only and do not have the capability to connect to any RecoveryAir garments.

The RecoveryAir Prime system is compatible with the RecoveryAir Compression Sleeve only.

Why isn't my RecoveryAir half-jacket or sleeve inflating?

After connecting your RecoveryAir Compression Half-Jacket or Sleeve to the RecoveryAir system with the instructions provided, you will notice that the secondary vent remains unconnected and exposed. Make sure you secure the secondary vent of your RecoveryAir system with one of the blocker plugs included. This will ensure your pump pumps air directly into the garment without leakage.

Can I use the compression boots at the same time as other RecoveryAir garments?

Upper and lower body RecoveryAir compression garments should not be used at the same time, but in separate sessions to ensure the safest experience with applying pressure to the body.

A Compression Sleeve and Compression Half-Jacket should not be used together.

Two Compression Sleeves can be used at once.

About RecoveryAir garment sizing

When dry, the external and internal surfaces of the boot/garment may be wiped down with 70% alcohol or with appropriate alcohol-based disinfectant. Store out of direct sunlight.

What clothes should I wear while using RecoveryAir?

You are free to wear anything you feel most comfortable in, but we do recommend athletic or moisture-wicking clothing for maximum hygiene and comfort during your recovery session.

To protect both the user and the product from damage, do not use the RecoveryAir system with any objects on your person or in your pockets. Do not use the RecoveryAir system with shoes on; socks are fine.

Can RecoveryAir and other Therabody products be used together?

Yes. RecoveryAir can be used along with other products in Therabody’s ecosystem to form a powerful recovery routine, using the different therapies (modalities) to attend to different needs at various points throughout your day – no matter your age, activity level or lifestyle.

If you want an energizing boost before your run or when you first wake up in the morning, Theragun is there for you with the percussive power you need and can be applied to almost anywhere on your body.

On your feet all day or just completed an intense run/training session? Before you target areas with Theragun, wind down with a longer RecoveryAir session while you read or watch TV to really get a full flush of the legs and increase circulation – no effort required.

Theragun is an active, versatile way to hone in on any one muscle or area, while RecoveryAir provides a broader, passive option to addressing circulation in the body.

RecoveryAir can also be used in conjunction with PowerDot, Therabody’s electrical stimulation device. Both devices are best used when the body is relaxed and sitting. You can pull on your RecoveryAir boots on your legs while using PowerDot on your upper body (lower back, abdomen, shoulders, traps).

Alternatively, if your quads, hamstrings or calves need more targeted attention from PowerDot, use RecoveryAir Sleeves up top to flush the larger muscles in your arm, torso and back.

Been using your keyboard mouse too much lately? Zip on your RecoveryAir Sleeve for a nice long recovery routine, and finish up with some Revive CBD Body Balm on your forearms to help melt the tension away.

Is RecoveryAir TSA-approved?

Yes. RecoveryAir can be stored in checked luggage or a carry-on. It should be removed from your bag to run through the x-ray machine when required, just like a laptop.

I have an injury. Can I still use RecoveryAir?

We advise consulting your physician before use of RecoveryAir products if you are currently experiencing any injury or have had a previous injury.

How do I find the serial number on my RecoveryAir system?

RecoveryAir PRO and Prime have a five digit serial number located on the base of the pump.

RecoveryAir JetBoots have a five digit serial number located on the rating label (a white square tag) tucked into the exterior of the boot, close to the main console.

RecoveryAir Generation 1 systems have a six digit serial number located on the tag on the interior of the compression boots or RecoveryAir garment.

What is RecoveryPulse?

RecoveryPulse is the world’s most advanced vibration and compression wearable. It is a portable device designed to help maximize muscle recovery time without changing your routine.

How do I know what size I should get?

We designed five different sizes for the RecoveryPulse Arm and six sizes for the RecoveryPulse Calf. To determine your best size for RecoveryPulse Arm, measure the widest point of the bicep with the muscle relaxed. For RecoveryPulse Calf, measure the widest point of the calf, with the muscle relaxed. Then, reference the below size guide to find your best fit.

If you fall in-between sizes and have used compression garments in the past, we recommend sizing down. If you are brand new to compression, we recommend sizing up. LIke most compression garments, these run small to allow a snug fit. You can also try RecoveryPulse on in-store at Therabody retailers and Reset locations.

What is PowerDot?

PowerDot's neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) send electronic pulses to your motor nerves to create muscle contraction and stimulate sensory nerves to temporarily relieve pain.

PowerDot takes the guesswork out of NMES and TENS, a recovery modality usually reserved for athletes and training rooms. The accuracy of pad placement, intensity level, and session time of any muscle stimulation is critically important for safety and efficacy. That's why our smart app finds the precise combination for you, intelligently taking fatigue level, recent activity, and unique needs into account.

What is electrical stimulation?

Electrical stimulation sends electrical signals through a device, stimulating sensory and/or motor nerves. There are two types of electrical stimulation: transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES).

NMES: NMES uses an electrical current to stimulate the motor nerves, which results in muscle contraction. This stimulus is designed to mimic the same type of signal the brain sends to the muscle when you move.

TENS: TENS uses an electrical current to stimulate the sensory nerves for therapeutic purposes. This stimulation suppresses the pain signals that are being sent to the brain to provide temporary pain relief.

Electricity is the natural way the cells in our body communicate, execute specific functions, and provide life. TENS uses the same method your body already uses to prevent the sensory nerves from telling the brain you are experiencing pain.

What is the difference between the PowerDot 2.0 Uno and Duo?

The Uno is a single PowerDot that allows you to stimulate one side of the body at a time.

The Duo is a pair of PowerDots allowing the user to stimulate both sides of the body or multiple muscle groups at once. With double the pads, Duo cuts your usage time in half while extending their life span. You'll cut down on the number of applications/re-applications to treat any one area.

Either option allows access to all of the pad placements, programs and modalities with the exception of “Long Haul Flight” (only available for Duo use).

How high should I turn up the intensity of my PowerDot product?

Everyone's physiology is different and reactions to muscle stimulation will vary. While our app ensures the safest, most accurate intensity level, pad placements, and session time for your needs, adjusting the intensity level until you see a visual twitch in the muscle being treated is a general rule of thumb. As the smartest muscle stimulator in recovery, PowerDot intelligently takes fatigue level, recent activity, and other unique needs into account when recommending intensity level.

Can I use my Uno and a Duo by buying more pads?

If you currently own an Uno and wish to use as a Duo, all you need is to purchase a second Uno and pair it to your app.

How long do the PowerDot pads last?

PowerDot pad adhesive lasts for about 20 applications, but actual life span may vary. We suggest using an alcohol wipe or saline wipe to clean the skin prior to use. Apply the pads on clean, dry skin, being sure to wipe off any sweat or natural skin oils.

Always store in a cool place.

How do I set up device sharing through my device?

The PowerDot app offers “Device Sharing” for Apple users (not offered for Android) with up to 4 other Apple users. Follow these steps to access this:

  1. Prior to setting up “Device Sharing,” we recommend having team member(s) create their profiles via the app on their Apple device and allow for app notifications to accept the “Device Sharing” invite.
  2. Pair your PowerDots to your app on your Apple device.
  3. Tap on “My Device,” the second to last icon on the bottom right.
  4. Tap on “Set Up Device Sharing.”
  5. Turn on by tapping on the slider.
  6. “Add Team Member(s)” by entering/adding the email associated with their PowerDot profile.
  7. The team member would then receive an “in-app” notification to accept the PowerDot.
  8. “Device Sharing” is now complete.
  9. Just make sure that other team members have their Bluetooth turned off if they are nearby.

How often should I use it? Could I use my PowerDot more than once a day?

In short, yes! We recommend utilizing the Performance programs no more than 1-2 times daily, per muscle group. The Recovery, Wellness, Everyday and TENS programs, can be utilized multiple times daily or as often as needed.

How long does it take to charge my PowerDot?

Charging your PowerDots to full should not take more than 90 minutes. You can charge PowerDots from any micro-USB connection or standard USB-compatible AC charger.

Am I able to make calls or use other apps on my phone while using my PowerDot?

Yes! The PowerDot app and firmware is specifically designed to work independently in such a way that other apps running on your phone, calls or services won’t interfere with active stimulation programs from the PowerDot app.

PowerDot’s firmware is smart enough to independently complete and stop your stimulation session even if the Bluetooth connection is lost between PowerDot and your phone/tablet.

Why do I sometimes only feel stimulation under the rectangular pads?

PowerDot applies electrical impulses to contract or twitch your muscles. The electrical impulse always flows between two points, with one point (or channel) beginning at the rectangular pad and one round pad and the second point/channel between the rectangular pad and the second round pad.

Therefore, if you disconnect the round pads, you won't be able to feel any muscle stimulation at all.

The following factors could be attributed to the difference in your feelings:

  • Positioning of the pads - If the rectangular pad is located closer to the nerve or muscle motor point, the brain could be prioritizing the stimulation feedback signal between the pads. Feel free to experiment with pad position of round pads on the muscle in order to see if you can find a position closer to the muscle belly (where motor points are usually located).

In general, if you can see a contraction or twitches under any of the pads, there is absolutely no reason to worry, as your muscles always contract along its full length, between the rectangular pad and each of the round pads.

Can I use my PowerDots while on a plane?

Yes! Once on your flight and in Airplane mode, simply turn Bluetooth back on and you will be able to use all of the PowerDot programs in flight.

Why does one PowerDot feel stronger than the other during use?

There is a possibility of having a minor muscle imbalance. Let’s say you work out 4-5 times a week and use your PowerDots daily for recovery and training. No matter which program is selected, the right side (dominant side) will always fire at a lower intensity with recovery programs because of overcompensation during training. On the other hand, when using the training programs, the left side (non-dominant side) will fire at a lower intensity because it is not put under as much stress as the right side. Now if you swapped the device from left to right you would have to adjust the intensity; this is the easiest way to tell if it is an imbalance.

The following factors may also account for the difference in stimulus during use:

  • Level of battery charge. Make sure the battery charge level is similar on both devices or get a full charge on both devices.
  • Pads setup: make sure that pads setup on one side is mirroring the other side. Both setups should follow the recommended positioning in the app.
  • Some people have difference in sensation and muscle recruitment between left and right sides of the body. In case you still feel the difference, please adjust the intensity for each device separately using the Powerdot mobile app “Device Lock” feature, available from the Stimulation Dashboard in the bottom menu.
  • The linked devices feature allows you to control each PowerDot independently when turned off. You could then turn off link channels and control each cable independently. This is very useful when you are dealing with imbalance/dominance.

If you believe that the above information does not pertain to your situation, please let us know.

Can I use my PowerDots while being active or training?

We recommend sitting or lying down during your PowerDot stimulation sessions with the main objective of developing strong isometric resistance for the heavy muscle contractions, generated by PowerDot.

However, depending on the muscles you’re stimulating and your stimulation program selection, you can also perform other activities (e.g. use your laptop or PC, read a book or watch TV) that will create little or no impact during you PowerDot stimulation.

The PowerDot app provides advice on the recommended stimulation positions for different stimulation programs and muscle groups.

Once your tolerance towards muscle stim increases, you can also try applying various dynamic exercises during use of the Performance program (such as performing air squats during strength/explosive strength contractions over your quads or hamstrings).

NEVER use PowerDot while driving, operating machinery, doing heavy physical training or any other action where involuntary muscle contraction can cause an accident or injury.

The Wave Series was rigiourously tested, going through countless iterations to ensure the right density, size, shape, and vibration intensity comfortably and effectively applied the pressure of your bodyweight to specific areas. These key design elements make Wave Series the most advanced rollers in recovery:

Every Wave Series device features a variety of powerful vibration frequencies, which can be adjusted to your comfort level manually or via the Therabody app to help release soreness, reduce tension, increase range of motion, and improve movement.

Connect your Wave Series device to the Therabody app for total control of your rolling experience. Adjust vibration intensity and discover guided Wave Series recovery routines specifically tailored to your needs.

Muscle work is all about applying varied angles of pressure to an area in need. The Wave Series is unique in that its innovative wave texture adds an additional dimension of pressure to the muscle, while also providing superior traction control.

Our founder Dr. Jason Wersland designed the precise size and shape of the Wave Duo. It is contoured with precision—two high points efficiently target either side of the spine and neck, while the concave center avoids extra stress on the spine.

What is the difference between the Wave Duo and Wave Solo?

While both are powerful options to apply pressure and vibration to the body, Wave Duo and Wave Solo offer very different shapes to treat specific areas of the body.

Wave Duo offers a contoured shape specifically designed to the curvature of areas like the back and upper body. It can also be used for a unique full-body roll, where it's contoured shape forms to either side of a muscle group. Wave Duo features 5 powerful vibration frequencies.

Wave Solo offers very precise, pinpointed vibration for focused areas. Whether you dig in to your hip flexor by placing your bodyweight against the floor, or you sit with the Wave Solo underneath your hamstring, there are so many ways to use Wave Solo to get extra pressure to areas in need. Wave Solo offers QuietRoll Technology, which effectively mutes any reverberation onto external surfaces and redirects all that powerful vibration to your body. Wave Solo features 3 powerful vibration frequencies.

Our Wave Series is all about versatility, helping you find the combination of solutions that are right for you as your needs change.

This all-in-one facial health device doesn’t stop there, offering more multi-tasking, science-backed facial treatments than any other — from skin-toning microcurrent therapy to rejuvenating light therapy to a revolutionary new way to more deeply cleanse the face.

And because every face is unique, we engineered the most personalized experience possible with an easy-glide magnetic ring system that allows you to seamlessly switch between, and even combine, treatments. As your needs change, the TheraFace PRO changes with you. It’s time to go beyond beauty, because true facial health is more than skin deep.

What makes Theraface PRO different from other facial devices?

As a device that offers benefits from your complexion to the health of the facial muscles beneath, it truly pioneers the new category of facial health. And with modular rings and attachments, multiple treatments can be used at once for the ultimate personalized routine.

How is TheraFace PRO's facial percussive therapy similar to Theragun percussive therapy?

We first pioneered percussive therapy over a decade ago and have now adapted the same renowned technology behind Theragun to provide a relaxing facial massage. At 3 mm of amplitude, TheraFace PRO safely and gently works away stress, tension, and minor facial pain and discomfort.

Just as each Theragun attachment is precisely shaped according to the body’s unique physiology, TheraFace PRO attachments are precisely shaped to the unique structure and contours of the face. The Percussive Flat attachment provides general use for the entire face, neck, and chest. The Cone attachment provides more precise treatment for targeted areas such as nasolabial lines, pressure points, and around the eyes. The Micro-pont attachment maximizes circulation for larger areas such as the forehead, cheeks, and chest.

Please note the following guidelines for using specific attachments:
